Humphrey Blvd Condominiums

Underneath the old deck boards which were cracking and breaking, the asphaltic membrane was failing and allowing water into the living space underneath.

This project was more of a technical challenge than most decks and consisted of the following steps:

1. Removing the existing deck boards.
2. Re-Sloping the support surface to create a correct drainage flow to the exterior.
3. Installing a new plywood substrate and perimeter flashing.
4. Applyling the Westcoat ALX Under Tile cementitious waterproofing system.
5. Applying a base coat of urethane waterproofing.
6. Applying a top coat of urethane waterproofing with embedded sand for a reduced-skid surface.

Since the outer edge of the deck was curved and there was a walkway on either side, the re-sloping portion was quite challenging, and ultimately successful.
