Are you looking for a versatile, durable, and beautiful flooring material for your home? You might be considering and comparing wood, luxury vinyl tile, and other flooring options. But have you considered concrete? It might be just what you’re looking for!

In today’s post we’ll review the biggest benefits of concrete flooring, show the best uses for concrete flooring, and hopefully inspire you to consider concrete floors for your home!

Benefits of concrete floors

Sustainable and environmentally conscious

Unlike wood and other flooring materials, concrete floors are a very sustainable choice. Luxurious concrete flooring can even be made from recycled materials. This can reduce your home’s environmental impact and increase sustainability. Some concrete floors even feature bits of crushed recycled glass, creating a truly one-of-a-kind appearance.

Durable, easy to clean, and maintain

When properly sealed and finished, concrete floors are rugged, durable, and easy to clean. Concrete floors can be swept or vacuumed to remove dirt and dust. If needed, a soft nylon brush and mild soap can remove most stains.

Economical

Even before factoring in their durability, concrete flooring stacks up well against other flooring materials when it comes to cost per square foot. There’s no reason that your concrete floors won’t last a lifetime.

Style and Versatility

To put it simply: modern concrete floors look great! Choose from one of dozens of high-quality finishes to create the exact look you want for any room in your home.

  • Store and organize sporting goods

It’s not just homeowners who love concrete floors. We’re seeing more and more business owners opting for durable, beautiful, and low-maintenance concrete flooring for restaurants, waiting areas, medical practices, warehouses, and other high-traffic commercial spaces.

Answers to common questions about concrete flooring

Can concrete floors be installed on the second floor of my home?
We can do a thin concrete polymer overlay on plywood on upper floors that can be stained and sealed to look just like normal concrete but without the extra weight.

What’s special about the concrete you use?
Our concrete has acrylic and polymer additives which allow it to be applied in very thin layers of 1/8” or so without cracking later after it cures. The thin layers allow for increased flexibility which prevents the imperfections from the substrate showing through.

How long do concrete floors take to install?
Depending on the level of complexity and the desired finish, the normal range is between 4 and 7 working days.

Can you do concrete countertops, too?
We can, but because the ratio of labor to the square footage of finished area is so high, they are very expensive and generally cost-prohibitive.

Can you do concrete countertops, too?
For interior floors, a clear re-coat every 10 years is generally sufficient. On the exterior, depending on the use and/or abuse of the surface, a re-coat is recommended every 5 to 10 years.
